The Power Plant Gala: Garden of Magical Thinking

On November 14th, I attended a magical dinner in support of the contemporary art scene in Toronto. I was honoured to be part of the planning committee that consulted on the event along with an amazing group of people from the city’s art community.

The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, located on Toronto’s beautiful waterfront, is Canada’s leading non-collecting public art gallery dedicated exclusively to contemporary visual art. The Power Plant is accessible to all audiences with free admission and innovative public programs.

The gala, ‘Garden of Magical Thinking’ directly supports the gallery’s ambitious exhibitions and public programs, and the dinner event supported The Power Plant’s mission to showcase groundbreaking contemporary art, helping shape and enrich Toronto’s cultural landscape.

We sat with Dr. Nandini Gupta and family, founder of Art-In-Medicine - the lead sponsor of the evening. The Harbourfront Centre Theatre setting is impressive, and we were surrounded by prominent artists and gallery owners including Gareth Brown of Patel Brown and the Honorary Chair of the night, Daniel Faria of Daniel Faria Gallery. The event felt creative and spontaneous.

The fundraiser was a garden-inspired gala celebrating growth, sustainability, and transformation. Guests indulged in a delicious dining experience by Griot’s Table. There were captivating performances by author/poet Randell Adjei and Cris Derksen, a Juno award winning modern cellist.
